Fresh produce

I don't have a summer veggie garden
(maybe someday)

But my brother-in-law
and a few great neighbors do!!!!!

Thanks to them we've been
having some delicious
meals this summer

Last night we had
fried green tomatos
paired with some
fresh gulf coast shrimp
and andouille sausage
I love a shrimp boil!!!!

Add a fresh salad with
home grown ripe tomatos

and a glass or two of Sangeria wine

 eaten out on
 the screened porch

Oh my Lord up in heaven
it just doesn't get any better

Here is the reciepe for fried green tomatos:
Slice your tomatos approximately 1/3 inch
Place them on a sheet of foil and let them sweat for about 15 minutes
You'll need one bowl of seasoned flour (we seasoned with Old Bay)
One bowl of corn meal
Combine the following for your wash
1 cup buttermilk (if you don't have buttermilk you can make it using 1 cup milk and 1 tablespoon
lemon juice -let it stand for 5 minutes
1 egg, and we used a few tablespoons of sour cream
Prepare your skillet (cast iron if ya'll got one)
pour in enough oil to cover half  way up the side of your tomato slices  (we used peanut oil)
Dip your tomatoes in flour, then dip in wash, then dip in cornmeal
Fry them in a hot skillet (approx 350 degrees)
Drain on paper towel
Serve with roumalade sauce
......and enjoy ya'll!!!!!

Every Little Birdie says-

Thank you Lord
for making me
a southern girl
     Amen!!
