The Price is Right

I've been keeping an eye on this cute
little piece at my favorite
thrift shop

The price was a little too high

So I thought I'd wait it out
and hope for the best

Well my patience paid off, I finally
struck a deal

The price was right!
so I loaded it in my car
took it to the shop warehouse....
and today I cleaned it up
polished it
and added new knobs

Ta Da.....

Isn't it darling

It's a very old piece of furniture
that just needed a little TLC

Knobs from Hobby Lobby

The original knobs were rather plain, and worn

I replaced them with these cute knobs
I think they give it a little added charm

It's displayed in my Vintage Nest booth

Now we wait to see if someone will
pay "MY" asking price

Every Little Birdie says
 I hope so!!!!!

Estate Sale Finds

Went to two Estate Sales
this past weekend

Found some treasures (of course)
But today I want to show
you two of the pieces I re-purposed

FIRST
 I found a green suitcase for $2.50

First coat of white paint
 Another coat of paint
a pretty stencil
It's ready for my booth!!

Second, a night stand for $25.00

 Beautiful curves, don't you think

 Love the drawers and hardware

A nice piece but in need of a little love

No problem.......
white chalk paint to the rescue!

I decided to paint the hardware too
What do you think???

Another coat of paint, A little distressing
A coat of wax, (I mixed Annie Sloan dark wax
with some of the natural Minwax paste wax
to give it an aged look

It's already made it's way to my booth space
just waiting for the right customer
to fall in love with it and take it to it's
new home

Every Little Birdie says
 I love to re-purpose!!!

Baby Sitting Bambi

Hubby and I were sitting on the
screened porch this evening
enjoying the cool breeze,
listening to the birds singing, watching the
hummingbirds racing here and there
when hubby spied something......

a baby fawn lying very still at the base of one of our trees

We had seen the deer stash their
new born babies on our property
while they went off to graze
and make milk to nurse them

....but this was not a new born

why had his/her mother left her there????

We soon came to a conclusion -

There is a house in our area that
feeds the deer

Every evening around 5:00 p.m.
the deer always congregate
there for what we like to call -

"The Deer Happy Hour"

.....knowing what nice people we are
she decided we could just keep an
eye on junior while she met up with
some of her girl friends for a
little refreshment and R&R

 WE WERE RIGHT!

an hour later, here she came
with one of her girl friends in tow,
collected her baby fawn
and off they went into the
woods behind us

Every Little Birdie says-
Deer baby sitting fee - who knows ???
maybe $10.00 an hour

The chance to actually watch one for an hour - PRICELESS

The Yellow Rose of Texas

OK, it's not exactly a Rose....

but nothing says Texas like
the flowering Prickly Pear Cactus

My cactus is just plain showing off
this spring!!

Look at these gorgeous yellow blossoms

I dug this plant up last year
potted it and it is doing great

.......it was on one of the corners of our
property and my hubby was going
to mow it down with his big, bad mower!!!!!

So glad I came to the rescue!

It would have been a shame
to miss this exquisite beauty

Each flower will fall off and
form another cactus pad

The Yellow Rose of Texas may be our song
But did you know -

The prickly pear cactus was designated the official plant symbol of Texas in 1995.

 Every Little Birdie Says
Beautiful to look at
but don't TOUCH
( believe me, I'm speaking from experience!!!! )

Mother's Day Outing

I had a lovely Mother's Day outing
on Saturday

We did the Victoria Parade of Homes
sponsored by the Home Builders Assoc.
followed by dinner out with friends
and home for a sunset golf cart ride
around our neighborhood

(thank you Chip & Sandra for
a wonderful time)

We saw a lot of beautiful new homes
but this one (outside the Goliad area)
was by far our FAVORITE!

 ........ a Beautiful Spanish Villa
sitting on an 11,000 acre Texas Ranch

Entrance Hall

This one story home had a sprawling 7,000 sq. ft.
You needed a road map to find your way around!

I didn't get pictures of every room
but here are a few snaps of some
of the bedrooms

(there were 6)

This home was filled with
beautiful color and decor

the master bath overlooked a private courtyard
that featured an outside shower

and the beauty extended
to the great outdoors

including a tree house for
the grandkids

I hope you had a blessed Mother's Day

Every Little Birdie says-
Thank you to my sweet children
for sending such wonderful Mother's Day wishes
my way.  I love you both very much!

Happy 40th

This past weekend was my and hubby's
40th Anniversary

Our real gift to each other is our
trip to England in the fall

But hubby decided a little
day trip might be a fun way to celebrate

So we hit Hwy 77 headed to Round Top
for a yummy meal at

Royer's Cafe

If you've never had the pleasure of eating
at this little hole in the wall place

You've missed out!!

Gourmet food and the best pie this side of heaven!

People have tacked notes all over the walls
so we decided to add our own note

DAN & MARSHA'S
40TH ANNV MEAL
@ ROYER'S CAFE

If you are ever there be sure and look for our note!!

After a superb lunch, and yes it included pie!
we waddled to our car and headed
to Fayetteville, Texas (just down the road)
 for the Weekend Art Walk
and Wine Tasting

Lots of beautiful paintings, handcrafted jewelry
and other wonderful creations

Festivities including a group of
musicians jamming

 Fayetteville has a charming square
with the original old courthouse at the center
of the grounds

It was a lovely day to celebrate
40 years with my favorite guy

Every Little Birdie says
Thanks for the beautiful roses honey
I love you to the moon and back!!!!
