The Art of Staging

What is staging a room?

It's stepping back
taking a good look
and then deciding.........

What will make this room pleasing
to another's eye
Douglas Elliman Florida property

This Florida home has great drive up
appeal but needs a little interior staging to
continue that "Old Florida" style
inside the home

Remember:
Step back and observe

My eye says:
There are three great pieces in this dining room:
The table/chairs
The green hutch
 The large clock

Now let's start from scratch

with those three pieces

(put everything else on Craig's list
and make a little spending money
to use on staging your room)

Let's talk about how to give
this dining room
that "Old Florida" feel

the dining table and chairs
have classic style
I'd paint them white and give them a
good distressing to bring out the real charm!
(Annie Sloan's Chalk paint in "old white" would be perfect)

    Moving the eye up......
Nothing says "Old Florida" like ceiling fans. So let's replace the dropped light fixture over the table with a fan. It adds charm and functionality.
(Cost:  about $200.00 at Home Depot)

AND

While we are at Home Depot
why not pick up a pretty
Sisal rug in a neutral color
to replace the existing one

It will anchor the table while
giving the room a more open look

Now on to that great hutch

For maximum "Old Florida" style
let's fill it with assorted white dishes
and a few interesting sea shells

(White dishes are easy to find
at flea markets, estate sales,
or charity stores)

Different shades of white are
also fun to display

Moving to the other wall
I would leave the clock where it is.
It's perfect!

On the other side of the wall, to the
right of the door way
(remember we've sold the mirror
and small table)

let's add a little rustic "Old Florida" charm
This shelf would be easy to make
and the stoneware pitchers
would continue to carry out
the "White dish" theme

and now for the finishing touch
add a unique center piece
to the dining table

Use your imagination
fill a wooden box
with candles, shells,
fresh flowers, etc.

NOW STEP BACK AND OBSERVE

Have you achieved the look and feel
you were going for?

Renewal

It's Spring y'all!!

I love, love, love, this time of year

I've been out working in my garden!

Spreading new mulch
weeding
planting a few new flowers

and yes, getting a little dirt on me

at the end of a spring day you should
SMELL LIKE DIRT!!

Spring is a time of renewal
for plants
AND
body and soul!!

Love me some
YARD ART!!

Things are beginning to bloom
and green up

Getting back in the garden
getting my hands dirty
and working with a passion

I LOVE IT!!

White Wednesday

The other evening I was
sitting on my screened porch
under the darkness of night
listening to the crickets chirp
and the tree frogs sing

I decided to light a few candles
and suddenly my
porch began to shimmer

The candle light was so
soft and pretty I couldn't
resist taking a few pictures

Enjoying quiet time
with a beautiful
surrounded by soft candle light

 on the screened porch

Most everything on my screened porch
is WHITE, so this continues that theme
with a touch of Birdie Style

I think it has a fresh spring look

It's Spring y'all!

SPRING HAS ARRIVED
IN SOUTH TEXAS

Nothing says Spring
like Texas wildflowers

I found potted bluebonnet plants
at my HEB in town!

I've bought the seeds before
with no success, so I was thrilled
to find these plants

I've always had to settle
for admiring them along the
Texas highways and byways

and what a glorious sight that is!!

But now I'm excited to see if
I can cultivate them on my
on little patch of Texas

If anyone has advice
PLEASE LET ME KNOW

Bluebonnets in a wash tub
Now that spells TEXAS

Did you know -
Bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas!!

White Wednesday

I've had this table for years

I Recently moved it into my guest room

The more I looked at it

the more I thought.....

WOULDN'T THAT TABLE
LOOK BETTER WHITE?

Oh yes it would!!!

I think it brightens up this cozy little
corner, don't you?

Every Little Birdie says

White is always the right decision
(if you ask me)
