Spring Break Part II

Spring Break @ Nana & Papa's
continued......

Welcoming my daughter and niece
who are both amazing teachers!!!!!

We packed at lot into our
four days of R & R

My daughter & grands arrived Sunday
Monday morning we were off to the zoo....
Even though my grands are teens now
they still love the Texas Zoo in Victoria

Especially my granddaughter who loves all animals - every shape and size!!

This is her favorite zoo guy
they blow kisses
and make a fuss over each other
the grands experience a hurricane simulator at the zoo

My baby and her baby

After a fun time at the zoo
we headed to Sonic for
"happy hour"

On the way home we stopped by the
Victoria Educational Gardens

Monday night Katy arrived to every one's delight

Tuesday I took the girls shopping

The girls at Discovery Architectural Antiques in Gonzales

We shopped till we dropped

Papa and Trace spent the day fishing
at a friend's farm pond
Trace caught four big bass!!

Wednesday we hit a few flea markets in Victoria
and then returned home and spent the
rest of the day "shabby chic" painting
some of our great finds

However, all good things must come to and end.....

....but not until they spent one last night
playing cards on the screened porch

Every Little Birdie says

Good bye sweet family

We enjoyed every minute of our time with you

Hope your break "springs you back"
into a good rest of the school year!

Spring Break Part I

Spring Break at Nana & Papa's

My daughter, grand kids
and niece are visiting
for Spring Break

We've had tons of fun
which I will share with you
in my next post.....

......but today I want to show you
 what my niece scored
at the many flea markets
we've hit over the last couple days

She found this door at the Re-Store
She is going to paint it and hang it
over her desk in her home office

and she found this cute table
(of course I didn't get before pictures)
but take my word it was a mustard color
bordering on gold....kind of ugly

.......until her Aunt Marsha painted it white
and distressed it a little

love the roses on the front

and these amazing legs

and last she found some large
frames that we painted white

she is going to use these to frame
her wedding pictures

I had fun showing the girls
how to make their own chalk paint,
painting 101, and how to distress

Now all that's left is figuring out
how to fit all this in her car!!!!

Every Little Birdie says-

But we don't sweat the small things
what's important is that she found
all these amazing finds for a real bargain!!

Market Days on the Square

Goliad Market Days

My friend Judy and I arrived early this morning
to set everything up for my booth

It was our first time to set up the EZ tent by ourselves
and it wasn't very easy, but we did it!!!!

By 8:30 we had everything on display
and were ready for our customers

Wasn't long before the square was
full of people

We had a lot of traffic in our booth

Sells were going pretty well all morning

But come afternoon........

The wind picked up

I mean it really picked up

Tents started blowing down, merchandise
starting crashing

We moved all of our things down off the tables
and arranged them on the ground

By early afternoon the crowds started to dwindle
the wind was just too much for everyone

Vendors started to pack up
and we eventually did the same

I wish the afternoon had gone better
but overall it was a good day and I sold
a nice assortment of things

Every Little Birdie says-

I'm glad to be home from market
with a glass of wine in my hand!!!!

P.S.  Special thanks to my friend Judy for all her help.
She is a remarkable lady and I'm so blessed to
have her as a friend

Last Minute Project

I received some nice
comments on my recent
POST
about the angelic trays
so I dropped by
the flea market yesterday and picked
up a couple more trays

Last minute projects for
my booth this Saturday
at the Goliad Market Days

I think they all turned out
pretty and I hope they are
a hit this Saturday

I think this small tray is
especially sweet

Every Little Birdie says-

I'll report back after
Market Days
and let you know how it went

Dream a little dream

Do you ever nap?

I do from time to time
.....when the mood strikes me

Sometimes when I'm having a busy day
I love to retreat to a quite place
and take a little nap.....
it re-energizes me for the
rest of my day

Speaking of naps.......

Here are some dreamy places
to take a little nap
.....and dream a little dream
Isn't this just too sweet

Oh my, how peaceful does this look

A swinging bed - how perfect is that!

or wouldn't this be a heavenly spot

 but my all time
favorite place for a nap
is a hammock

....... in my hammock
I can smell the flowers,
hear the birds sing,
and the wind chimes ringing in the distance,
I can feel the breeze
and see the tree branches
slightly swaying

It's the perfect place to rest a weary body
and escape from the world
for a little while

Every Little Birdie says-

Where do you escape to
take a refreshing nap???

Purple Haze

One week until my booth at
Goliad Market Days

Furniture is painted, crafts are made, things are priced
I think I'm almost ready

Saturday morning
hubby and I
loaded up the furniture
for my booth and took it to my friends house

This special lady helps me at the market days
(can't find a better friend than that!)
she will haul the furniture to Goliad this Saturday
and my car will be packed to the brim with everything else!

While we were at her place she said
"let's go down to the barn, I want to show
you some things you might want"

She pulled out an old box and started to
pull out bottles.......purple bottles

Are you familiar with purple glass
if not here is a little history lesson

Why does this glass turn purple?
Beginning in the 1860's, glass makers in the United States started using manganese to give glass clarity instead of lead due to lead shortages created by the Civil War. Glass containing manganese eventually turns a light purple when exposed to sunlight, a side effect that was unknown at the time that this practice started. By roughly 1915, most companies in the United States switched from manganese to selenium to maintain clearness in their glass. Thus, with a few exceptions, including Heisey, Fostoria and Imperial, companies that produced this type of glass likely manufactured it from the 1860's to the years around 1915.

You will find the glass in different shades of purple

Isn't it pretty

She also gave me this great bottle

I'm not sure what it was originally used for
but  think it's a great piece

My friend has a wonderful collection of purple glass
I feel so lucky that she let me have these
pretty pieces

Every Little Birdie says -

Hope your weekend was good

Texas independence still alive

Today is the 177th
anniversary of the signing of the
Texas Declaration of Independence
in 1836!!
On that day the Texians officially
broke away from Mexico
and became
The Republic of Texas

Texas still maintains the
fiercely independent spirit
it's always had throughout
it's history

.....  you can still see the
flying over the little
town of Gonzales

or hear the battle cry
Remember the Alamo

while visiting the
Historical Battle Grounds
at San Jacinto
where Texas won the Victory!!!!

Or remember Davy Crockett's
words to the Tennessee congress-

"You may all go to hell, and I'll go to Texas"

Texas is a great state
with a great history
and I can truly say-

I'm proud to be an American......

BUT I'M HONORED
TO BE A
6th GENERATION
TEXAN!!!!

Aaron Cherry Sr. - Arrived Texas 1819
Aaron Cherry Jr. - fought at Battle of San Jacinto
Aaron Cherry III - my great grandfather
William Cherry - my grandfather
Marshall Cherry - my dad
and ME!

Every Little Birdie says-
 Happy Birthday Texas!!
