Vintage Corner

There is a little corner
right off my bedroom
where you'll find
some of my favorite
vintage treasures

the hanky with the pretty flowers
belonged to my grandmother

below it is a very special embroidered cloth

My granddad lost his leg in World War I
He stitched this beautiful piece while he was
convalescing in the English military hospital
.....he gave it to his mum, who passed it to my
Nana, who passed it to her daughter (my mom),
who passed it to me!

I am so honored to have this very special treasure
as it reminds me of an incredibly special man - my grandfather!

my sweet daughter, knowing my love of
all things vintage, gave me this
pretty wash bowl and pitcher
one year for my birthday

It was love at first sight!!!!

........and the table cloth it sits on belonged
to my Nana in England
one of many of her beautiful linens I inherited

Don't you love the delicate
detail in the lace edge

The sweet baby in the vintage
carriage is my granddaughter
(now 11 years old and growing into
a beautiful young lady)

The table is actually an old sewing machine cabinet
......it belonged to Hubby's grandmother
another very special lady in my life
I love displaying and using my
vintage treasures

I think it's a great way to honor the
people in our lives that passed their
treasures down to us

Vintage Pillows

Yesterday I pulled out a few of my
vintage pillowcases
(vintage is another way of saying "old")

......first let me say this project started
when I bought a brand new
rocker for the screened porch
It looked so fresh and new
I decided to freshen up
some of my other chairs
with "new" pillows

only problem I don't sew, soooooo
......that's where the vintage pillow cases
came in to play

This chair got a total revamp with a
new seat pillow and back pillow
I just took some old pillows I had
popped them into the vintage pillowcases
and presto new pillows

I folded the top over on the back pillow
and secured it with a vintage pin

New fresh look!!

I also used a vintage pillowcase
on one of my chairs at
the table

I secured it
with a hand embroidered pin
made by my Aunt Billie

I already had used an old pillowcase
on the chair at the other end of the table
This is the table I painted white
with the "old white" Annie Sloan paint
I've decided to also paint these end chairs
with the ASCP
New cushions, new paint,
Things are getting freshened up
on Birdie's Porch!!!!!

I'll do a post once I paint the end chairs white

Oh and BTW,
Happy July 4th from
me, hubby and Pixie!!!!!

Fresh produce

I don't have a summer veggie garden
(maybe someday)

But my brother-in-law
and a few great neighbors do!!!!!

Thanks to them we've been
having some delicious
meals this summer

Last night we had
fried green tomatos
paired with some
fresh gulf coast shrimp
and andouille sausage
I love a shrimp boil!!!!

Add a fresh salad with
home grown ripe tomatos

and a glass or two of Sangeria wine

 eaten out on
 the screened porch

Oh my Lord up in heaven
it just doesn't get any better

Here is the reciepe for fried green tomatos:
Slice your tomatos approximately 1/3 inch
Place them on a sheet of foil and let them sweat for about 15 minutes
You'll need one bowl of seasoned flour (we seasoned with Old Bay)
One bowl of corn meal
Combine the following for your wash
1 cup buttermilk (if you don't have buttermilk you can make it using 1 cup milk and 1 tablespoon
lemon juice -let it stand for 5 minutes
1 egg, and we used a few tablespoons of sour cream
Prepare your skillet (cast iron if ya'll got one)
pour in enough oil to cover half  way up the side of your tomato slices  (we used peanut oil)
Dip your tomatoes in flour, then dip in wash, then dip in cornmeal
Fry them in a hot skillet (approx 350 degrees)
Drain on paper towel
Serve with roumalade sauce
......and enjoy ya'll!!!!!

Every Little Birdie says-

Thank you Lord
for making me
a southern girl
     Amen!!

Dine with me

Welcome to our
Dining Room

As many of you know we dine out
on the screened porch often
but we also enjoy our
indoor dining room

We have an open floor plan so it's adjacent
to the kitchen and living area

I love my antique sideboard
It's an English piece I've had for many years
and I think it adds a lot of charm to my dining area

What kind of wine would you like with your meal?

My center piece is simple but pretty....

.....Hydrangea's in a classic white pitcher
sitting on a  Battenburg lace runner

I'm always changing out the theme
on my sideboard (from season to season)
and of course I change my
chalkboard sign from time to time also

today it's welcoming
Every Little Birdie!!!

this is one of my favorite pieces
I found it years ago at a antique shop in Tyler, Texas

 An elegant old soup tureen
has a place on the sideboard

This wall art of an old door
gives me a little french country touch
and I love the blue!!!!

My table is a reproduction
of an old french farm table

I have more leafs I can add
and it will seat up to twelve
(not sure I want to cook for that many though)

I choose Windsor style chairs for this
table because they are so classic

Hope you enjoyed looking
around my dining room
