Anxiously Waiting............

I am so ready for 

SPRING

We had a pretty hard winter

for South Texas

It actually got down in the 20's

a few times

Therefore my pretty flower gardens

F R O Z E

Luckily all my plants are perennials 

(which means they will come back) 

so I've just cut everything to the ground

and now I'm waiting, waiting, waiting

for them to SPRING back!

Patience is NOT my middle name

so it's very hard for me to wait

However, there were a few brave plants

that made it through the winter

My succulents!!!!

 How joyous to have these pretty 

green plants all year long 

My vintage enamel bowls

work great as containers

 Recently while shopping in East Texas I

 found a cute little chicken feeder

for $5.00 and guess what I used it for.....

a planter for succulents!!

(they aren't fussy 

they'll grow where ever you put them)

 

I am anxiously waiting for Spring

but until then I've got these hardy

little plants to keep me happy

Heavenly Shades of White

I'm in love with the color white

I think it brings peace, calmness

and serenity

It's the color palette I chose 

for my home and I never

tire of it

and that's especially true

on my screened porch

I love using cotton in my decor, it's the perfect white touch

Can't you just feel yourself

taking a deep breath 

and relaxing.......

Road Trip Texas style

We've been hibernating lately 

staying home, warm and cozy during the cold spell

We finally decided it was time to get out and about!

ROAD TRIP !!!!

Destination...East Texas...Canton

SHADY PINES

(My son's country place is a favorite 

gathering spot for our family)

 I featured it in a past Post

 The main house is a great place to gather

    
However.....

 My favorite place at Shady Pines 
is the little cottage at the back of the property

My daughter, granddaughter and myself 
have taken this sweet little house on as a labor of love.......
it's an ongoing project and each time we visit 
we add a few decorating touches
(hubby even contributes with his MAN labor
thanks for installing the new dishwasher)

This trip the twin room got some loving attention
We added colorful quilts, vintage decor on the wall
and a few more pieces to our shelf over the window

We also hung some pretty curtains to soften the room up a bit

Last year we added curtains 
and a day bed to the other bedroom

I think each bedroom has it's own charm

We took down the old shade over the kitchen sink
and replaced it with a pretty curtain topper

Another new addition to the kitchen/living area
is this darling drop leaf table

My sweet friend and favorite junkin' partner

had this vintage table in her barn and 

donated it for the cottage

To add to the family fun we had a birthday celebration

Saturday night

 I love that my sweet granddaughter and I can share our 

birthday celebrations together

I love my birthday gifts

What a thoughtful and beautiful gift!

Sunday after the masses left, 
hubby and I took a country drive

We visited the Blue Moon Gardens

(if you haven't been there it should be on

your East Texas bucket list)

 

and stopped in the little town of Edom

renowned for it's artist community

Best little wide spot in Texas

Monday morning it was time to go home 
we said goodbye 
to Pork Chop, the pig
and Chuck, the rooster
(Celebrities at Shady Pines) 

 Hubby pulled up a Texas Map
and decided we'd take a
different route home
stopping in the charming town
of Bastrop for lunch

(I was intrigued with the following description
written on their Chamber of Commerce website) 

Besides having one of the most historic and quaint downtowns in the State of Texas, Bastrop, nestled along the banks of the Colorado River, also boasts delicious culinary treasures sure to please even the most devout foodies, a thriving art scene, some of the best live music just east of Austin, and the most adorable shops and boutiques full of thoughtfully curated goods.

This Texas small town is worth the stop!!

We ate a delicious lunch at

Maxine's Cafe and Bakery

located in the quaint downtown

Recognized by Texas Monthly as one of the “40 Best Places for Breakfast in Texas” and one of the

 “40 Best Small Town Cafes in Texas” 

 I'll end with a little Texas history ........

While finding our way to Bastrop 

we traveled on the OSR

(Old San Antonio Road)

and discovered this road has some 

very interesting history

 It's the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail

dating back to the 1600's

to us!!

 Nothing compares with
a beautiful blanket
of snow straight from heaven

WELCOME TO

Every Little Birdie's Christmas Nest

We're having a "white" Christmas

this year with touches of green

(not literally of course, because we live in South Texas) 

I have trees in teapots and tea cups
to celebrate my English heritage


After all, isn't Christmas the perfect time
to enjoy a cup of hot spiced tea and a little something sweet 

My Nana's heirloom table cloth looks lovely
with my Christmas centerpiece

 

 Our family spent Thanksgiving at 

my Son's weekend home in East Texas

 

Me, my daughter and grand girl went shopping 

around the Canton, Texas area on "Black Friday"

 

At one of the shops I found a real treasure

 The moment I laid eyes on the angel scale
I feel in love with her
Doesn't she look divine on my buffet 
The perfect Christmas touch!

We decided on a smaller tree

this year

I like the simplicity of this table top tree, 

but I promise the big tree will return next year

in all it's shimmer and glory!! 

The Christmas tree theme flows
throughout our home

I started collecting the small bottle brush trees a few years ago and each year my collections grows

 a sweet little wreath has been added

to the old ladder with vintage linens

(and just like real life, in my own backyard,
it looks like the dear is about to take a big bite out of my wreath!!) 

I love the warmth Christmas decor
brings to a home
It reminds me of the love, joy and peace
we receive from our Savior, Jesus Christ

JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON
