Bloomin' Time in Texas

If you read my last post you know we went to the Hill Country to celebrate Texas Independence Day.  The drive over from Victoria is a little under two hours, not a bad drive.  As a matter of fact it was delightful because the wildflowers are beginning to bloom all along the Texas roads.  (Thank you Lady Bird Johnson!!)

Indian Paintbrushes
Buttercups

Bluebonnets
Texas State Flower
The bluebonnet may be the official symbol of our state when it comes to wildflowers, but when it comes to trees,  the Texas Mountain Laurel (Sophora secundiflora) is the poster plant. Although its growth rate is slower than molasses it is well worth the wait. The purple spring blooms leave the air laden with a heavy, grape bubble gum or grape Kool-Aid aroma.

When in the Hill Country we often stay with our good friends, Janie & Allen, at their beautiful villa on the Comal River in New Braunfels.    This visit to Villa Sartain was a delight to the eyes as their Texas Mountain Laurel trees where in bloom!!!!  Let's take a look around their beautiful property.
Janie said the blooms only last for a few days so our timing was perfect!!!

It all starts at the entrance

and then continues down their
winding drive

Don't you feel like you are in Italy???

as you travel down the drive there are a few places to stop, relax
and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you

The property the Villa is built on is where
Allen's grandparents had their tiny rock cottage
on the Comal River

The Villa was built in a manner that surrounds and preserves the original cottage
There are three levels- the home is built on one level, with a second story yoga studio above the house
and the cottage below the home.

........hard to explain but beautiful to see

Let's walk down the steps beside the Villa to the
cottage where we stay

entrance to stone cottage

There are four patios leading down to the river
Each one has a place to stop, relax and take in the view

the beautiful Laurel Trees follow you as you take the winding steps
down to the river

Spring in Texas, it's as fleeting
as a fading sunset

Enjoy....
take in it's beauty.....
It won't last long

...........in the blink of an eye we'll be basking
in a Texas summer

I'm partying over at-

They WON their independence

To this day, March 2 is officially celebrated as Texas Independence Day — a state holiday marking the day that Texas seceded from Mexico in 1836

Can I hear a YEEHAW!!

Here is how we celebrated -

Can you think of a better place to celebrate
Texas Independence than at Texas

I THINK NOT!!!!!

Gruene Hall in Gruene, Texas
A tiny town with a BIG TEXAS SPIRIT
Beautiful plants surround the Hall

Welcome to my Kitchen

From time to time I've shared
my recipes with you.......

So today I thought I would
show you around my kitchen
where we cook all those
yummy meals

I had so much fun designing this kitchen

I was full of ideas on how to make this
 my dream kitchen-

This was my wish list--

  • small desk for phone, recipes, & notes to self!!
  • a shelf over the desk for cookbooks and decor
  • I wanted at least one glass front cabinet for my crystal
  • a butcher block island for chopping and working dough
  • a shelf to display my collection of blue dishes
  • hubby wanted a Viking cooktop
  • and what about a big bar top to eat at or for our guest to watch us cook!
  • I also wanted to mix things up a bit by using some stained cabinets and some white for accent.
From dream to reality....................

First, here is my little kitchen desk-

I love this for keeping clutter off my counter tops
and my shelf above the desk
Perfect for my cookbooks and kitchen decor
I found these two cute metal magnetic boards
to hang coupons, recipes,  & notes to self!!

Every Little Birdie loves her cook book titled "How to Cook Everything"!!
My glass cabinet for pretty glassware -

I had lots of fun designing this
butcher block island!
Love the way it turned out!!
Then I found this wire
basket -
It's perfect for my wine cork collection
& my Bon Appetit magazines!!

Yes, I drank all those bottles of wine, but not at the same time!

My scott towel holder has a birdie on a perch
My blue dish collection looks so pretty on this shelf above my kitchen sink
My daughter gave me this wonderful 3-tiered basket
to store my fruits and veggies
My sister gave me this print which I cherish
Can you guess what my favorite hymn is??????
a little farm house charm

Every French country kitchen needs a Rooster!!

Last but not least....

Our cooking station
Yes, hubby got his Viking Stove!!

I love my mantle above the stove
turned out just as I had envisioned
I choose this for the focal point over the stove

My friend, Janie, at Villa Sartain gave me this beautiful container
 to hold my cooking utensils

Two more house warming gifts that I adore
The blue is so pretty

Every Little Birdie says-
