A Trip 2 Remember

Me and my sister promised my Mom a trip to the beach for her 90th Birthday. We gave her an IOU at her birthday party in February good for "A Beach Vacation" as soon as the weather warmed up. 

We've just returned from fulfilling that promise

Our destination - Rockport Texas

It's a delightful little Artsy Beach town with a very laid back feel-- the perfect place for our vacation with Mom

We had a lovely bay side Captain's Suite

at the Lighthouse Inn 

On our agenda-

A stop at the Rockport Arts Center

The harbor

A little shopping at the cute shops
in Downtown Rockport

And of course a trip to the beach!

My mom loves the beach

 It reminds her of where she grew up on the South Coast of England
 

We watched Shrimp boats
coming in one evening

 
 and amazing sunsets

I had the most spectacular drive

on my trip to Dallas and back

I saw lots of fields covered

in Blue Bonnets

but one can only take a few pics

while driving at 70 miles per hour!

Country Drive and more!!

While on my visit to the Dallas area

(the last two weeks) 

my brother-in-law took

me and my sister on a 

country drive 

 

This beautiful drive took us

to the little town of Quinlan, Texas

Where we found this wonderful shop

 

What a delightful surprise!!

Simple and Sweet

Look what I found at one

of my local thrift stores

It was in a pile of old linens

A little tattered and torn

but nothing a needle and thread

couldn't fix

Isn't it the sweetest little

baby dress!

I added an old locket of mine that has

pictures of my mom & dad 

(taken on their honeymoon)

It now holds a place of honor on the wall in my bedroom

"I once was lost

but now I'm found"

It has found a good home with me!!!!

Birthday Surprise

My birthday was back in February

Last time I was up to visit my Mom

she said I have your birthday

present back here in my bedroom

She took me back and to my 

utter surprise

There was the old family

music box

  It's been in my English family for over

100 years, maybe 150 years

She brought it back from England

on a trip to visit my grandparents

in England when I was five

I have always been madly in love

with this old box

So I was so very honored 

that she would pass it down to me!

It now takes a cozy spot on top the wine rack in my dining room

 It has three bells, is hand cranked,

and has a channel changer switch

to change songs

It makes the most beautiful music

this side of heaven

 

Thank you mom for trusting me

with this beautiful old treasure

 I will love and care for it

until it's time for me to pass it down

(note to sweet daughter - it won't be anytime soon!)

Miss Matched

My sister and I were strolling

around the fields

at the Warrenton Antique Show

last week when I came

upon some junk laying in

the grass in front of

one of the tents

.......and look what I found

 These great old pot lids

Each one unique in it's own way

I thought to myself

"I can do something with these"

I've had a few ideas but nothing

has moved me to action yet

OK, fellow bloggers

I know how talented you all are

Frame It!

As mentioned

in an earlier post 

part of my loot shoot 

from my trip to Warrenton/Round Top

included some doilies, old linens

scrabble letters, and an old picture

 

I promised to show you

what I did with my new treasures

 

Take a look-

 

 

I painted an old frame

backed it with foam board

covered that with an old linen runner

 

 placed my doilies

and started gluing vintage items

I think it turned out pretty stinkin' cute!!

and it found a home above the

bed in the guest room
