Stocking are hung
and ready to stuff

 

 

 cards are received

 

from dear friends near and far

 

 

 

Texas Reindeer are roaming

in my front yard!



 

HOUSE IS ALL DECORATED





In each and every room

 

TABLE IS READY

 

 

 

 for a Christmas feast



SPIRITS ARE BRIGHT

 

with a warm Christmas glow

A Cold front and a Mood change

My favorite season is Fall

 

but in South Texas we don't really

have a FALL

 

 

 Never the less, starting the end of September

I decorate my house inside and out

in the Harvest décor

just so I can get in the mood

 

(even though I do it in my flip flops

and shorts)

 

 

However, by the end of November

I'm getting a little weary

of the harvest theme

 

This weekend we had a COLD front!

It was in the 40' - 50's

 

This catapulted me into the

Christmas Mood!

 

SO I GOT UP IN THE ATTIC

AND STARTED THE TRANSITION

 

 

Fall décor was packed up

Winter décor was brought down

 

The screen porch is looking like a winter wonderland

 

and there's a warm glow on the dining room table

 

 

 

 

 

OUTSIDE THERE ARE STILL

PLENTY OF PUMPKINS

 

BUT INSIDE IT'S BEGINNING TO

LOOK LIKE CHRISTMAS

 

NEXT WEEKEND

 

The tree goes up!

What's For Dinner?

The dreaded question!

 

Hubby and I struggle each week

 to think of something new

and exciting to plan for dinner

 

and then we end up

cooking the same old meals

He said they send you three meals a week with all the pre-measured ingredients, everything you need with detailed instructions on how to prepare your meals 

He and his wife raved about how good it was.....

 

We decided to try it!

 
It takes all the guess work out of planning
plus it's healthy, low calorie  
and you are trying new things

Here's a sample of some of our latest meals

Jamaican Jerk Chicken & Maduros
with stewed collard greens

Roast Pork & Braised Endive

with Green Apple & Endive Salad

Salmon Pastrami on Rye
with Red Cabbage & Green Apple Slaw

Chicken Khao Soi Soup
with Yellow Curry and Crispy Wonton Noodles

Pork Meatballs in Butter Lettuce Cups
with soy dipping sauce and sticky rice

ALL UNDER 700 CALORIES!!

And yes, it takes an hour or so
to prepare these meals
but hubby and I love to cook together
so we pour a glass of wine
put on some music
get in the kitchen
AND COOK!

and just in case you think we might
be going overboard on the low calorie/healthy
food kick.......

Here's what I prepared for dessert this weekend

 

English Trifle

I'm not even going to guess the calories
in this baby, but whatever,
it's worth every bite!!

Here's the recipe

Pound cake
Preserves, microwave to improve consistency
Large box of pudding
Berries, any kind
Whipping Cream

Place half of the pound cake cut into 3/4" strips
Drizzle preserves over cake
Spread half the pudding
Sprinkle berries over pudding
cover with whipped cream
Repeat for second layer

ENJOY!

Cottage Attic

I recently took a painting assignment

for an interior decorator in town

 

 

She was remodeling a beautiful country home

and the adjoining guest house 

 

The guest house had an upstairs

bedroom that had the feel of an old attic,

which was charming but it was a little too dark

 

She wanted me to paint

 the existing furniture

 

 "WHITE"

 

to brighten the room

 

 

 

The desk was beautiful as is
but too dark for this room

 



We decided to paint the bottom
on this piece but keep
the gorgeous zebra top

 

Not quite finished but looking brighter!

 

Wouldn't you love to be a guest
in this cozy room

 

 

 

 

I loved working on this desk

lots of wonderful areas to distress

and the same with this beautiful
chair which will soon be
upholstered with a new
beautiful fabric

 

 

It's fun working on a project

and seeing it progress from

beginning to end

Fluffing My Nest

After an extremely slow

June and July

my booth sales finally

picked up.....

 

So much that the

 

VINTAGE NEST BOOTH

 

 

looked a little sparse

 

which meant I needed to get to work

buying, re-painting, re-purposing!

 

It's finally re-stocked

White Wednesday

If you've followed my blog

for a while, you know two things

about me.....

 

 

         1.  I always forget to take "before" pictures

              of my furniture projects.

 

        2.  I paint everything WHITE!!!

 

 

Amazing as it is,

I actually remembered to

take a few BEFORE pictures!!

 

So this White Wednesday

I'd like to share my latest projects
Before & After
and yes, they will all be WHITE

 

I found this lowboy buffet
at Salvation Army

It had been there for months but
the price was a little too high

Finally the price got right
and I snatched it up!!

It needed a lot of cleaning,
a little repair work,
the top needed sanding,
some new hardware,
and WHITE paint!!

Isn't is amazing what a little paint can do?

 The new "bling" hardware
really helped too!

 

It now resides in my

VINTAGE NEST

Booth

 

Just waiting for the right customer!

 

 

This was a beautiful piece

however, the interior decorator

I was doing some work for

needed it to be WHITE

 

 

We decided to leave the top stained wood

 

I love the contrast!

 

 

I think the white really

brings out it's character

 

This is sort of a before picture

 

 

At least I remembered to grab my camera
before I painted it completely white

 

Don't you just love the legs on this piece!!

Boring brown table in need of repair
turned into a beautiful antique white
farmhouse table!

I love to re-purpose!!

 

 

and for the last couple of WHITE projects

you'll just have to use your imagine

on the BEFORE

 

because all your getting is the AFTER

(and you know why)

 

Tables are a hot item in my booth right now
which means I'm always in the process
of painting my next table!!

 

 

 

A little WHITE paint makes such a difference
